The Codes



Hermeneutic Code (HER) – all units whose function is to articulate in various ways a question.
·      Aims to distinguish/disclose enigmatic lexical problems
·      The Detective Code
·      “What is Sarrasine? A noun? A name? A thing?"

Semantic Code (SEM) – referring to signifiers par excellence, connoting different branching meanings from the original face value of the lexia in question.
·      Semes are merely indicated without linkage/connotation/hierarchy
·      The Linguistic Code
·      Sarrasine (SEM. Femininity resulting from of French onomastics)

Symbolic Code (SYM) – refers to the realm of the antithetical, where two adversative terms are linked in juxtaposed repulsion, leading to expansion and deepened lexical meanings.
·      Anti-structural – the field can be entered through multiple POVs, therefore making depth/secrecy problematic.
·      The Substitution Code
·      Structures of life and death, hot and cold, exterior and interior, etc.

Proairetic Code (ACT) – the code of actions and behavior implicating logic in the sequentialism of human action.
·      The Causal/Sequential Code
·      “I was deep in sleep…when I was roused by a conversation”

Cultural Code (REF) – references to a science or a body of knowledge, indicatively drawing attention the type of knowledge therein.
·      Does not reconstruct the original body of knowledge.
·      All codes are cultural.
