The need to redefine and reinvent what was previously a solid understanding of reality is imperative to the progression of the narrative film. By asking for a definitive response to the presuppositions of reality/nonreality, Morpheus invokes a paradigm of rationalization in opposition to the irrationality of cyberspace. Negating all that once was thought to be true, new definitions are brought forth to redefine Neo’s nonexistent past (nonreality).
